JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com � Lost moving spring adalah pegas yang digunakan untuk menekan pelatuk katup atau rocker arm pada mesin Honda yang menggunakan teknologi VTEC atau i-VTEC. Ukurannya kecil, jauh lebih kecil dari per klep. Per yang bermasalah, menurut keterangan Honda, hanya terjadi pada pelatuk katup yang ditugaskan bekerja pada putaran rendah.

Masalah yang terjadi menimbulkan bunyi berisik (abnormal). Bunyi timbul karena per tersebut patah atau bengkok. Kalau patah, menurut rilis Honda, akibat terburuknya adalah mesin mogok.

Bila teknologi VTEC Honda ini kita dalami lebih lanjut, untuk menggerakkan sepasang katup, digunakan tiga kem (cam) dan tiga pelatuk (rocker arm). Pelatuk bertugas meneruskan gerakan kem (menyundul) untuk selanjutnya menekan katup.

Ketiga kem punya profil dan tinggi berbeda. Kem pinggir digunakan untuk putaran rendah dan sedang. Selanjutnya, kem tengah digunakan untuk putaran tinggi. Kedua kem pinggir disebut "primer" dan tengah "sekunder". Bukaan pada kem terakhir lebih tinggi dan lama. Menurut insinyur senior Honda, untuk mesin 1,6 liter, tingkat angkat kem primer 5-6 mm, sedangkan sekunder 10 mm.
