JAKARTA - Sebagaimana tradisi yang dilakukan setiap memperingati hari kemerdekaan RI, Presiden Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono kemarin (15/8) mengukuhkan Pasukan Pengibar Bendera Pusaka (Paskibraka) di Istana Negara. Sebanyak 66 anggota Paskibraka dari 33 provinsi mengucapkan ikrar sebelum bertugas pada upacara peringatan proklamasi kemerdekaan 17 Agustus besok.

Dea Ayu Tiara Hastika, anggota Paskibraka asal Kalimantan Tengah, mewakili anggota lain memegang bendera Merah Putih saat mengucapkan ikrar. Presiden lantas menyematkan lencana kepada Dea yang juga bertindak sebagai pemimpin upacara dalam pengukuhan itu.

Presiden SBY kemudian menyampaikan pesan kepada para anggota Paskibraka. Salah satunya, mereka hendaknya menjadikan pengalaman sebagai anggota Paskibraka untuk bekal masa depan. "Saya harap kalian bisa menjadikan peristiwa yang sangat penting ini sebagai babak baru dalam perjalanan kehidupan kalian ke depan," kata SBY.

"Di depan kalian terbuka peluang yang besar untuk meniti karir, berjuang, dan berupaya membangun masa depan yang baik," sambung SBY.

Presiden menegaskan, anggota Paskibraka patut bangga karena terpilih dari jutaan pemuda untuk bertugas mengibarkan Sang Merah Putih pada hari bersejarah. "Pertanggungjawabkan misi sejarah yang diembankan kepada kalian semua," tuturnya.

Para anggota Paskibraka tersebut akan bertugas menaikkan dan menurunkan bendera Merah Putih pada upacara peringatan HUT Ke-66 RI di Istana Merdeka besok. Pengukuhan itu dihadiri Wapres Boediono dan sejumlah menteri Kabinet Indonesia Bersatu jilid II. Hadir juga Panglima TNI Agus Suhartono dan Kapolri Jenderal Timur Pradopo.
