Malaysia pelan-pelan mulai membaca permainan lawan dan berbalik menguasai alur bola di paruh akhir babak pertama. Lewat tendangan-tendangan jarak jauh, "Harimau Malaya" mulai menebarkan ancaman, antara lain lewat tendangan bebas Bakhtiar Baddrol di menit ke-25.
Sampai 45 menit awal berakhir, kedua tim tetap bermain imbang tanpa gol. Kekuatan tim masih sama-sama kuat meski nyaris tak melahirkan peluang mencetak gol. Serangan-serangan cepat yang dirancang oleh Malaysia selalu menghadapi jalan buntu begitu memasuki kotak penalti lawan.
Memasuki menit ke-75, Singapura mulai bangkit dan gencar memberikan tekanan. Lewat umpan-umpan terobosan di dekat kotak penalti lawan, Singapura berupaya menembus pertahanan Malaysia meski berkali-kali gagal membuahkan peluang emas.
Strategi memberikan tendangan-tendangan jarak jauh yang dilakukan Malaysia kembali diperagakan oleh Baddrol di menit ke-82. Sayangnya, bidikan Baddrol hanya menerobos ruang kosong di samping gawang. (kompas.com)
