Thumbs up Penambang Temukan Hiu Purba 300 Juta Tahun

Lexington � Seorang penambang menemukan, fosil tulang rahang hiu purba di sebuah tambang di Kentucky tengah. Fosil itu ditemukan Jay Wright saat menambang di sana.

Fosil yang akan dipamerkan di University of Kentucky itu ditemukan di Webster County, Kentucky. Penambang berusia 25 itu menemukannya pada kedalaman tambang sedalam 210 meter.

Fosil rahang berusia 300 juta tahun itu diyakini merupakan rahang hiu purba jenis Edestus. Seperti dikutip Straits Times, Kentucky dulunya merupakan laut tempat hiu purba ini berenang.

�Apa ini?� ujar Wright saat pertama kali menemukan fosil hiu tersebut.

Associate Director Kentucky Geological Survey Jerry Weisenfluh mengatakan, temuan fosil berukuran besar seperti ini cukup jarang terjadi.

Saat ini, fosil hiu purba tersebut sedang dipamerkan di Gedung Mines and Minerals, Inggris.
