Meskipun kain besurek diyakini sebagai hasil budaya fisik masyarakat Melayu Bengkulu, tapi pada motifnya terlihat pengaruh unsur-unsur kebudayaan Islam, yaitu motifnya yang bernuansa kaligrafi Arab.
