The 3500 Studio Series comes in six different designs copied from the canvases of five artists. The mouse has a matte, rather than glossy feel, adding a good gripping texture and one that won't attract smudges. Between the right- and left-click button is a rubber scroll wheel, which has only vertical scrolling�it lacks any tilt functionality. Other mice, like the Logitech Couch Mouse M515 ($49.99 direct, 4 stars) and Logitech M305 Wireless Mouse ($29.99 direct , 4 stars) have a tilt function that acted as a back/forward browser (or whatever else you wanted to customize the right and left tilt to mean) in lieu of no browser buttons on the side of the mouse. The 3500 Studio Series is perfectly symmetrical�undiscriminating against your choice of or biological disposition for right- and left-hand navigation. The sides of the 3500 Studio Series have a soft rubberized texture, for better grip and feel.
Features
The 3500 Studio Series features Microsoft's homebrewed BlueTrack technology, which enables the mouse to track over a wider variety of surfaces, with the exception of clear glass and mirrored surfaces. This feature alone makes it a good asset for road warriors who may not have a traditional table top to work with. In field testing (i.e., my commute) I was able to navigate with ease across arm rests (even rubber ones), canvas bags, and traditional desktops.
The Wireless Mobile Mouse 3500 is very similar to another BlueTrack mouse I reviewed recently: the Wireless Mobile Mouse 6000. Unlike the glossy, pink and black 6000, however, the 3500 that I tested featured artist Mike Perry's design on the top of the mouse. The design is done as a colorful matte printing on the top, with the sides and bottom of the mouse in both glossy and matte black.
What is BlueTrack?
Microsoft's BlueTrack technology is designed to let you mouse on almost any type of surface, including the jeans on your leg, the carpet in your living room, or the granite counter tops in your kitchen. I say "almost" because it will not work on mirrors or clear glass.
