Tak jarang teman akan bertanya dahulu soal merek telepon selular saat
akan meminjam charger. Ini tak lain pengisi data batere untuk satu merek
berbeda dengan yang lain. Kini Micro USB Port dipastikan menjadi standar
untuk charger pada serangkaian telepon selular.

Ada 14 pabrikan ponsel penting telah mengirimkan rincian kepada Komisi
Eropa mengenai koneksi standar baru, setelah mereka sepakat
menggunakannya pada Juni 2009. Spesifikasi teknis berbasis konektor micro
USB banyak pabrikan ponsel telah menggunakan. Di antaranya Samsung,
Apple, Nokia dan Research in motion, pembuat dari Blackberry.

Jack micro USB sebenarnya sudah umum digunakan, termasuk di luar 14
perusahaan yang bersepakat akan hal itu. Wakil Presiden Komisi Eropa
Antonio Tajani mendukung standar baru itu. "Kini saatnya bagi industri
menunjukkan komitmennya untuk menjual ponsel dengan charger baru.
Charger universal akan memudahkan konsumen, mengurangi sampah dan
menguntungkan buat bisnis. Hal ini benar-benar situasi yang win-win."

Komisi Eropa memandang, ada ketidaknyamanan bagi konsumen jika charger
tak cocok untuk semua telepon genggam. Mereka menilai pula adanya
dampak lingkungan yang serius.
