Post 22 Gorila Gunung "Dibaptis"

KIGALI, KOMPAS.com - Perdana Menteri Rwanda Bernard Makuza memimpin upacara tradisional untuk "membaptis" 22 bayi gorila gorila gunung, Sabtu (18/6/2011).


Upacara pemberian nama itu dilangsungkan di Kinigi, di Taman Nasional Volcanoes. Dalam upacara tersebut, ke-22 gorila diwakili anak-anak yang berpakaian gorila.


Taman nasional itu berada di perbatasan Rwanda, Uganda, dan Republik Demokratik Kongo. Di tempat itu hidup sekitar 360 gorila gunung, separuh dari total populasi gorila gunung di seluruh dunia.


Keberadaan mereka menjadi perhatian dunia berkat mendiang Dian Fossey, primatologis ternama Amerika Serikat.


Upacara istimewa itu disiarkan secara langsung melalui radio dan televisi nasional. Makuza memberi nama Ijambo pada salah satu dari gorila kembar yang lahir Februari lalu. Dalam bahasa Rwanda, Ijambo berarti "kata".


"Saya memberi nama Ijambo karena yang kita lakukan, kemajuan yang kita capai, memampukan kita berbicara di dunia," kata Makuza dalam sambutannya.


Kelahiran gorila kembar itu sangat jarang terjadi pada salah satu spesies hewan primata yang hampir punah itu. Dari tahun ke tahun, populasinya terus menurun.


Bayi kembar gorila gunung juga lahir bulan lalu, dan merupakan kelahiran kembar ketujuh dalam 40 tahun terakhir. Si kembar terakhir ini akan diberi nama pada upacara tahun depan.
