Hewan arachnida atau hewan berkaki delapan biasanya memiliki anak dengan cara bertelur, namun ternyata kalajengking tidak temasuk kedalam hewan arachnida yang bertelur. Kalajengking justru seperti mamalia, melahirkan anak.
Cara beranak seperti ini dikenal dengan nama ovovivipar, yaitu telur berkembang di dalam tubuh hewan betina, janinnya memanfaatkan makanan dari induk, dan saatnya melahirkan tiba, bayinya akan keluar.
Ketika melahirkan, jumlah anak yang dikeluarkan kalajengking berjumlah 12 ekor atau lebih. Mereka keluar satu per satu. Setelah semua anaknya lahir, mereka diletakkan diatas punggung induknya hingga anak-anak ini cukup besar dan kuat untuk hidup sendiri.







Reproduksi


Kebanyakan kalajengking bereproduksi secara seksual. Namun, beberapa spesies, seperti hottentotta Hottentotta, caboverdensis Hottentotta, australasiae Liocheles, columbianus Tityus, metuendus Tityus, serrulatus Tityus, stigmurus Tityus, trivittatus Tityus, dan urugayensis Tityus, memperbanyak diri melalui partenogenesis , sebuah proses di mana telur yang tidak dibuahi berkembang menjadi embrio hidup.

Reproduksi seksual dicapai dengan cara transfer spermatofora dari pejantan ke betina. Kalajengking memiliki ritual seks semalam suntuk dalam pembuahan. Mulai dari kimpoi dengan pejantan, sang betina menemukan dan mengidentifikasi satu sama lain menggunakan campuran feromon dan getaran komunikasi.
Setelah perkimpoian selesai, pejantan dan betinanya akan terpisah. Pejantan umumnya akan mundur cepat, kemungkinan besar untuk menghindari kanibalisme oleh sang betina, meskipun kanibalisme seksual ini jarang terjadi pada kalajengking.
