Orders for Mazda CX-5 total 20,000 in 3 months : Business : DAILY YOMIURI ONLINE (The Daily Yomiuri))
Mazda Motor Corp. said Monday it has received nearly 20,000 domestic orders for its new CX-5 sport-utility vehicle in about three months since its debut on Feb. 16.
The number of CX-5 orders had reached 19,600 as of last Tuesday, about six times the target sales figure for the three-month period, the Hiroshima Prefecture-based automaker said.
The CX-5 comes equipped either with a gasoline or "clean diesel" engine. About 80 percent of the orders were placed for the next-generation diesel model, featuring technology to substantially cut emissions of toxic air pollutants, Mazda said.
The firm aims to sell 160,000 units a year of the CX-5 in the global market.
